Wandle HA appoints new Chair

David Clarson says: " I have enjoyed 9 years at the helm and am extremely proud of Wandle's achievements. I leave knowing that Wandle is a great position to take advantage of new opportunities as well as continuing to improve existing services. I should like to welcome Philip to the Board and I wish him, and the Association, the very best for the future."

Sara Thakkar, who was appointed Chief Executive in May 2009, added: "We are all delighted to welcome Philip to the Board and to the Association. We are confident that his skills and energy will help us ensure a successful future for Wandle."

Philip Sturrock has over 35 years of experience as Chair and CEO of companies in the book publishing sector including leading the IPO of Cassell plc on the London Stock Exchange. He has attracted investment from public, private and venture capital sources and has extensive team building and mergers and acquisitions experience. He is Treasurer and Chair-designate of The United St Saviour’s Charity, a medieval charity working in North Southwark and Bermondsey. In November 2009 the Secretary of State for Business invited him to join the Industrial Development Advisory Board which gives advice to Ministers on selective financial assistance to industry.

Philip said of his appointment: “I am very excited about joining Wandle. We need to build on the sense of pride that people have in their communities and work with partners and residents to shape neighbourhoods into places where people want to live and work.”
