Barking dogs

This would only be considered anti-social behaviour if it is persistent.

It is natural for dogs to bark, but when it is happening often, or goes on for a long time, it can be annoying or upsetting.

It is reasonable to hear occasional barking, but not if it happens at the slightest disturbance, or because the dog is left alone for long periods of time.

If the behaviour is persistent  (lasting longer than thirty minutes a day, more than five days a week) and you do not feel safe approaching your neighbour to discuss it, or you have tried and the situation has not improved, you should:

  1. Contact the local Environmental Health Officer (through your local council)
  2. Keep a log of the incidences using our  Diary sheets [docx] 60KB.
