Wandle and Barratt London celebrate Golden Brick milestone for 220 affordable homes at The Lanes

Wandle and Barratt London have celebrated reaching Golden Brick at The Lanes, marking an important early construction milestone for the delivery of 220 new affordable homes in Wandsworth.

The Golden Brick ceremony marks the point at which foundations have been laid, and the first bricks are in place, paving the way for the next stage of construction. The event brought together representatives from Wandle, Barratt London, South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, with speeches from Anne Waterhouse, Chief Executive of Wandle, and Daniel Masters, Operations Director at Barratt London.

Delivered in partnership by Wandle and Barratt London, with support from the GLA, The Lanes will provide 95 homes for Social Rent and 125 for Shared Ownership, helping to meet the need for high-quality affordable housing in the borough.

The development forms part of the wider Springfield Village regeneration, which is transforming the former Springfield Hospital site into a new neighbourhood with homes, public spaces, shops, cafés, world-class mental health facilities and a 32-acre park. Springfield Village will deliver nearly 1,300 new homes, alongside new commercial and community space, supporting the creation of a new mixed-use neighbourhood in Wandsworth.

Barratt London has been involved in Springfield Village for more than five years, having delivered 298 new homes at Springfield Place, the first phase of the wider neighbourhood. The Lanes is the latest phase of Barratt London’s work at Springfield Place and once complete, will deliver 449 homes.

Anne Waterhouse, Chief Executive at Wandle, said: “Wandle exists to provide affordable homes in south London for people who need them, and this milestone is a perfect example of that mission in action.

“By delivering 220 new affordable homes here at The Lanes we’re helping to tackle the shortage of good-quality, affordable housing in this part of south London.

“These homes will be a mix of social rent and shared ownership for residents of Wandsworth, enabling them to remain close to family, jobs, and the amenities they rely on.”

Daniel Masters, Operations Director at Barratt London, said: “This is an important moment, marking our partnership with Wandle to deliver 220 much-needed new affordable homes for the people of Wandsworth.

“It also represents another significant milestone for Barratt London in the development of the wider Springfield Village. Partnership has been central to everything we have achieved here, we are proud to be helping meet London’s urgent need for affordable homes by working with organisations who share our vision and determination to create great places for Londoners to call home.”
