What should I do if I smell gas?

If you smell gas or suspect there is a gas leak:

  • open all doors and windows
  • shut off the gas supply at the meter control valve if you know where it is
  • if gas continues to escape call National Grid on the Gas Emergency Freephone number 0800 111 999.

Who is responsible for what?

By law, we must regularly maintain any gas appliances we provide for you.  This means appliances must be inspected every year and have a valid gas safety certificate.  Our policy is to service your gas appliances every 10 months. Remember, this is only for appliances we provide, such as the boiler and, in some cases, a gas cooker.  You are responsible for appliances we did not supply.

How do I book an inspection?

When your appliances are due a service, our contractor, K&T Heating Services, will write to you with an appointment date. If you cannot make that date, call them or rearrange online – there will be instructions on the letter.

K&T Heating Services can be contacted at any time on 0800 092 2420 (free from a mobile) or 020 8269 4500. These numbers are open 24 hours a day. You can also email them on repairs@ktheating.co.uk

What happens during a gas inspection?

The service should take around an hour unless there are problems. If they do have to disconnect the boiler, this is for your safety.  Once the inspection is complete, K&T will send you a copy of the gas safety certificate within seven days.

Do I have to let K&T into my home?

Yes. The K&T engineer will you show an identity card with their name, company (K&T Heating) and a Gas Safe Registered number. Your agreement with us is that you must let them in to do the service and any repairs that are needed. 

If you don’t let them in at the agreed time, they may call without an appointment at another time.  If you still don’t let them in, we will contact you to discuss any issues.  Our final option is to start taking legal action against you.  This may include gaining entry to your home. 

What if Wandle hasn’t inspected the appliance?

If we have failed to carry out a 10 monthly service to a gas appliance that we supplied, please let us know as soon as possible and we will book an appointment.

The Health and Safety executive enforces gas safety regulations.  It can take action against us if we fail to carry out our legal duties.
